Content Production

If you love the broadcasting industry but don’t love the idea of being on air, content production is for you. There are many job opportunities if you choose to be involved in the backside of a station. Whether you’re skilled in audio editing, interested in creating events for the station, or if you love music and curating playlists, there are many paths and opportunities to develop. Many of the director titles may have counterpart jobs like promotions manager or production manager that you can grow into as you develop your skills.

To be involved in content production, the biggest thing you need to bring with you every day is an open mind and creative ideas. Regardless of what specific role you are looking to get into, it’s important to be well-versed in more than just your designated job description. Working in content production at a station can involve a lot of things. Collaborating with other departments to help the entire station succeed is key.

Radio provides opportunities such as a Program Director, where having the ability to program music is important. If you want to explore a career as a Production/Imaging Director, having the ability to not only edit and write commercials but also create imaging for a Top 40, Classic Rock, Alternative, Country, or other station is important. For Promotions, having the ability to create events is a great skill to have.

TV offers roles like a Producer who writes news stories and decides the order in which they're presented on-air. Working as a Videographer is an exciting career that allows you to be in the field gathering interviews, B-roll footage, and more. This path also allows you to develop editing skills, which can be transferrable to other broadcasting careers.

Digital involves creating, editing, and managing a wide variety of digital media. This includes text, audio, video, and photos for online mediums.
