Tell Your NEW YORK Story
Working in broadcasting is one of the most fulfilling career paths imaginable. It’s a field filled with opportunity that allows you to connect with your local community and keep people informed. You can break the story that makes history.
You could be a reporter who gathers interviews from political leaders or be on the sidelines of the biggest game of the season. If you’re interested in a behind-the-scenes role, you can work in engineering, television or radio production, or digital content creation. If building relationships with clients sounds intriguing, advertising might be in your wheelhouse. If you’re interested in all of the above, that's even better. Broadcasting is an industry that thrives on versatility, creativity, and teamwork.
In New York, there are endless opportunities in small, medium, and large markets. Beginning your career in a smaller market can provide more opportunities if you have less experience. You can then develop your skills and move up to bigger cities. Whether it’s waking up to the New York City skyline in the country’s biggest market, or leaving an indelible mark on a small town through the neighborhood radio station, the possibilities are thrilling. It takes dozens of people to successfully run a news or radio station, many of whom work behind the scenes. Each role is critical and demanding in its own way. Sales teams are tasked with learning the ins and outs of the station’s broadcast and digital offerings, forming partnerships with clients and bringing in revenue. Graphic and Creative are tasked with understanding and defining the station’s brand, cutting video and audio together in a number of ways to represent it in a positive way across multiple platforms.
Engineering and Production serve the critical role of making sure the station and its equipment is well maintained, while ensuring broadcast products make it to air without issue. The News department is home to anchors and reporters – the ‘faces/voices’ of the station – backed by photojournalists, Producers, Editors, and Website professionals all working in tandem to serve the station’s mission.
