Cayla McGurn
Market Controller

Hi there! I’m Cayla McGurn, and I work for WNYT-TV/WNYA-TV (A Hubbard Broadcasting Company) in Albany, NY, as the Market Controller. I technically oversee the station's Finance and Human Resource departments, though I have a tendency to involve myself in everything business-minded and growth based - with the ultimate goal of moving us forward as a station and as an industry overall.

Broadcasting wasn’t something I had considered or had been working towards, and I ended up here at the station by ‘chance’ when I took a part-time position in the business office while finishing up my Accounting Degree at Siena College. From there, I made my way to my current role and have been the Market Controller for about 7 years. Overseeing these departments means I have my hands in pretty much everything here at the station, and I am proud of the difference I make here on a big scale, as a result.

My days are always different, and rarely as expected. I lead a team responsible for all of the station's accounts receivables/payables, and I handle all of the budgeting and financial records as well as overseeing the station's DEI initiatives, recruitment & retention, and other HR responsibilities. On any given day, I handle a wide variety of tasks from administrative responsibilities to multi-million-dollar budgets & Capital Projects, to union negotiations and legal concerns. If it has a $ sign or a person’s name involved, you’ll find me there. I have a voice here at the station and am grateful for the autonomy and trust placed on me by the station’s GM and corporate leadership. It’s never boring, and I can truly say I enjoy coming to work – how many people get to say that?
